Helsinki Tales...

I got a chance to visit Finland. The country is in difficult times. But unlike some nations, I believe the Finnish have not completely lost the plot. Here is a brief account...

Finalnd is on a selling spree. Tourism. Education. Culture. Perhaps for a country to avoid recession the best bet is to sell intangible experiences when its real economy is in doldrums.

Now, in such difficult times Clean technology is the new mantra for Finnish Companies seeking an entry into India. According to Finnish Industry estimates, the size of the clean technology business in India will increase up to around 300mn Euro by 2012, especially in wake of India’s energy demand.

More than 50 Finnish companies, including majors such as Metso and Wartsila are firming up their plans to step up their operations in the country in sectors such as renewable energy and waste management.

Finnish companies are also looking to tap the nuclear waste management market that would shortly emerge in India. “We’ve a strong expertise over whole waste management chain and this is a big undiscovered opportunity on which Finnish companies can work on,” says Henry from CleanTech Finland.

But most Finnish students still think of India as a land of snake charmers. I would have come back with this feeling if i had not met this group of Egil and his team.
They were a young bunch from Netherlands and wanted to check out Helsinki and the girls around:)

Two of them had come to India recently and did say that we are on the right path...

There was lot of action but on that later....
